Questa è la storia "Il paese che non rotola più" di Gianni Rodari che è stata letta ai bambini per poi avviarli alla conoscenza delle più semplici figure geometriche in inglese.

The village that doesn’t roll anymore
by
Gianni Rodari

Once upon a time there was a round little man, who lived in a round village.
Houses, windows, roofs, streets and trees were all round.
It was difficult to walk in a village that was spherical, as everything rolled over and the round men, rather than walking, moved rolling along the street.
Even cars rolled and it was impossible to drive them.

Mister Round, the major of the village, a really paunchy person, with round glasses, was desperate, because he couldn’t solve the big problem.

Much thought was given to it, when a day a famous wizard arrived in the village and declared he was able to stop all this rolling in the village.
The major called him (sent for him) and the wizard came.
He had big moustaches and a square bag. Inside the bag there was the Big Book of Magic.

The major asked the wizard:
“ Please do something to stop this rolling village”.
“I have an idea! (I’ve found the solution) We have to change people’s feet to square ones”.

All the people in the village had their feet transformed and so they didn’t roll anymore. They built square houses near round houses and everyone lived better from then on.

The news spread around the nearby villages and many people wanted to move to the square village.
Now the houses weren’t enough and the major said:
“ Where shall I put all these people?”

This time he called (sent for) the Triangle Fairy. She walked on tip toe so she came very slowly.
And what did she do? She added many triangles to the square houses, making pointed roofs.

Now people could live in attics and lofts. The fairy adorned the village with many triangle trees. The village became really beautiful and many people could live there.

From then on everyone lived happily ever after .
